Language Exchange

If you want to practice your Catalan, immerse yourself in Catalan culture and enjoy your free time with students like you, we will help you find a language partner.

University of Barcelona

UB

The UB provides our visiting students who want to practice Catalan and local students who want to practice other foreign languages with a language exchange service. A win-win if ever there was one! You can practice Catalan, Ukrainian, German, Italian, English, Japanese or Euskera, among others. And for those students from Spanish-speaking areas, we organise dynamic Catalan conversation exchange groups. Everyone is welcome!

For more information, contact sl.acollida@ub.edu.

Autonomous University of Barcelona

UAB

The UAB offers activities for new students to get to know the linguistic and socio-cultural situation of Catalonia and to be in contact with local students. These activities are offered throughout the academic year to promote contact between students and cultural and languages exchanges. There are also specific activities organised for major dates on the calendar such as the day of the patron Sant Jordi and the Annual Party at the UAB.

Pompeu Fabra University

UPF

The aim of the language partners scheme in the UPF Language Volunteers programme is to encourage Catalan students to improve their knowledge of other languages and to enable international students to learn and practise Catalan (and/or Spanish) through a friendly, informal two-way relationship, helping them to integrate more easily in Catalonia and enabling Catalan students to develop a more international outlook without leaving home.

University of Lleida

UdL

Anyone who wants to offer to chat in their own language, or another language they speak well, in exchange for practice in another language, is welcome to join the Language Exchange Programme. The Language Institute will put interested students in touch with each other so they can form conversation pairs or groups, and will also offer activities in various languages.

University of Girona

UdG

Language exchange is an informal way of practising or improving knowledge of a language. At the UdG we put local students in touch with visiting students, so you can converse in the languages you know or study.

Rovira i Virgili University

URV

Sign up for Tàndems URV, the URV Language Tandem scheme! It’s a great way to practice languages, meet people and learn more about the culture. The Language Service will put you in touch with another person based on the languages you want to exchange, and will help you set up your first meeting.

University of Vic

UVic

Would you like to practise your Catalan while helping another UVic student learn your language? Sign up with the language exchange register to find a language partner in the Virtual Campus at «UHub > Ofertes i demandes». You just need to write a new message, select “Parelles lingüístiques” and explain what languages you speak and what aspects of your Catalan you would like to improve. And if you have any hobbies or interests, tell us about those too. If another student is interested in your offer, they will contact you.

The exchange can be face-to-face, on-line, or a mix of both. You can do more than just practise speaking. It is also a great opportunity to experience another culture and exchange ideas with a student from another country.

If you have any questions, write to us at sl@uvic.cat.

International University of Catalonia

UIC

A language exchange involves pairing a visiting student who is learning Catalan with a Catalan-speaking student who wants to practice another language. Most Catalan universities have a language exchange register that they use to put students in contact with each other based on the languages they want to practice. From this point on, the students themselves arrange their meetings.

If you are not a university student you can take part in the Language volunteer programme, organised by the Language Policy Secretariat, as a learner.
